Andes & Altiplano trek

Overall, it was absolutely fantastic! Javier, our guide, was phenomenal and truly gave a whole new life to the trip. Having previously worked for an outdoors company, I know how much organization and logistical planning goes into each trip, and Javier executed everything perfectly. He knew the terrain, knew the country, was obviously extremely experienced, and had a great attitude towards trekking.

The food in Peru, as well as the entire team (horseman etc) were absolutely fabulous. I looked forward to every single meal!

Oman

Take an adventure holiday to OMAN with World Expeditions, one of the world’s leading travel companies.

The Sultanate of Oman is a coastal plain at the southeast tip of the Arabian peninsula lying on the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman. Oman's diverse geography includes rugged coasts, placid beaches, craggy mountains, salt flats, oases and deserts.

Oman is roughly the same size as England and lies on the north-eastern corner of the Arabian peninsula bordering the United Arab Emirates in the north, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the west and Republic of Yemen in the south-west.

The northern part of the country is dominated by the mountain range Jebel Akhdar which includes the 3000m Jebel Shams. The north-eastern slopes of these mountains form a fertile plain, the Batinah, along the Gulf of Oman. This is where most of Oman’s estimated 1.5 million people live and where Muscat is located.

“Since leaving Arabia, I have travelled among the Karakoram and the Hindu Kush, the mountains of Kurdistan and the marshes of Iraq.  I have seen some of the most magnificent scenery in the world and have lived among tribes who are interesting and little known.  None of these places has moved me as did the deserts of Arabia.  Those 5 years I spent with the Bedouin were the most important of my life.”  Postscript by Wilfred Thesiger in Arabian Sands.

The Weather in Oman

With the exception of Dhofar region, which has a light monsoon climate and receives cool winds from the Indian Ocean, the climate of Oman is extremely hot and dry most of the year. Summer begins in mid-April and lasts until October. The highest temperatures are registered in the interior, where readings of more than 50° C in the shade are common.

Muscat is hot and humid from mid-March until October and pleasantly warm from October to March. In the southern Salalah area, humid weather with temperatures approaching 30°C (90°F) is common even in December. The Salalah area gets drenched by monsoon rains from June to September.
