Costa Rica Traverse

The trip was wonderful, thanks! The local operator, Coast to Coast, were very well organised and especially Danny, the lead guide, was the best guide I have ever seen in action. It was a privilege to be guided by such a well-rounded and versatile person - from navigating and motivating the group, to cooking (delicious food) and patching up blisters. And always with a smile on his face.

I am already planning my next trip with World Expeditions - rafting on the Franklin River in Tasmania.

Kyrgyzstan

Take an adventure holiday in KYRGYZSTAN with World Expeditions, one of the world’s leading travel companies.

Kyrgyzstan is bordered by China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and the major geographical features are the peaks of Tien Shan and the associated valleys and basins that encompass entire country.

In ancient times Kyrgyzstan occupied an important place on the Silk Road particularly the town of Osh, which is Kyrgyzstan's second and oldest city, now celebrating its 3000th anniversary. The ancestors of the present day Kyrgyz people probably lived in southern Siberia until the 10th century, but under Mongol incursions began to spread southwards. Later on the area, which is now Kyrgyzstan, came under the Manchus and from the 18th century it was part of Kokand Khanate.  The Russians invaded in the late 19th century and the land was then amalgamated into the Soviet Union until 1991, when Kyrgyzstan gained its independence.
