Everest High Passes

...we shouldn't finish without mentioning admiration for the endlessly busy Mr Lama. He like all World Expeditions staff we met, was very charming and knowledgable, this characteristic seems to be a requirement for employment with the company

Himalayan Trust Khumjung School Trek

Sitting in the heart of Nepal’s Sagarmatha National Park is Khumjung School, also known as Hillary School in a mark of respect towards the man who built it back in 1961, Sir Edmund Hillary. At 3790m above sea level it is the only high school within the Khumbu region and boasts views of the mountain that first made Sir Edmund Hillary famous – Mt Everest. This was the first school that Sir Ed built in Nepal and the start of a very special relationship between the Sherpa people of Nepal and Sir Ed. For many, both in Nepal and across the world, Sir Ed’s philanthropic work in Nepal is his greatest legacy.

This special fundraising trek to the Khumjung School, marking the 50th anniversary since it was built, is a wonderful introduction to trekking in the Everest region. The trek weaves through Sherpa villages towards the Khumbu regions largest and most important monastery, Thyangboche, which was rebuilt after a fire in 1989 with the assistance of the Himalayan Trust. During your trek you will experience unparalleled views of some of the world's highest peaks, including Mt Everest. This trip includes many other highlights including visits to the Himalayan Trust projects at Phurte Nursery, the Monjo School and Health Clinic as well as Khunde Hospital, which was also built by Sir Ed. If we are lucky, we will receive a blessing by the Rimpoche of Thyangboche Monastery. Our visit to Khumjung will coincide with the School’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Support the Himalayan Trust and people of the Khumbu by joining us on this unique experience.
