Mount Cook Aoraki Ascent

As for the Mt Cook trip, it was absolutely brilliant. Thoroughly enjoyed it and the 10 day course taught me a lot! I'm already thinking of what I would like to climb next.... Possibly something in the Himalayas. Just need to keep up the fitness (and save up a lot of money!!).

New Zealand Snowshoeing Adventure

The foothills of the Southern Alps undergo a magical transformation in winter. A covering of snow turns these tawny tussock lands into an extensive playground, not just for skiers, but also for walkers on snowshoes. During this exciting snowshoe adventure you will explore an amazing wonderland of ice-covered streams, curving ridges boasting picturesque panoramas and snowy valleys. From Christchurch, you will travel to the alpine village of Tekapo, stopping en-route to enjoy lunch at a boutique winery. Your first hike will take you to Rex Simpson hut, your cosy mountain accommodation at the snowline (1280m) which will serve as your base for the next three days. Here you can build a snow cave, which provides an optional overnight bed for the hardy, as well as snowshoe along the relatively easy gradient of Snake Ridge to the summit of Beuzenberg Peak (2070m) before returning via Camp Stream valley. Spectacular views of Mount Cook's east face, Mt Tasman and other stunning peaks in the Main Divide will reward your efforts as you trek along the ridge. Returning to Tekapo, there is another option for a short walk before continuing back to Christchurch.
